Jackson Elementary walking school bus

Today, Jackson Elementary kicked off a pilot walking school bus program with special guests Mayor Corbett, Principal Mrs. Davidson, and Facilitator Mr. Brandon. There are 14 students participating in Jackson's walking school bus on a route that is about .5 miles. Jackson is one of 4 elementary schools in Cedar Rapids to participate in a pilot program with coordinators from the Linn County Health Department, The Optimus Club, The Blue Zone, school staff and parents. There's so many benefits to schools starting walking school buses, including healthier children, students are more alert at school, less car congestion near school, better air quality around the school, and children develop relationships with their community.
