This is my boathouse. It broke loose from the Ellis Harbor and floated to the RR Bridge on 6/12. It was all in one piece and totally recoverable. As the water lowered it became hung up on the bridge. It remained there for a week. Finally on Fri 6/20 it fell off the bridge, floated about 150' before it sank. Now still today, there it sits.
Boathouse falls from bridge and sinks.

I am so sorry for your loss but I am very happy that they did not allow a recovery effort to save the boat houses hung up on the RR bridge. Why should people's lives be put in danger and money spent to salvage a house BOAT. The risks were obvious.

I agree that they made the right call, safety should always be fiirst! . And it's a HOUSE.not a boat. Obviouisly you've never had one, or been in one, why destroy the ones that are on land now and can be salvaged? Is our spirit not worth anything?

This stinks! I know how much you loved this boat house and how many wonderful memories you have there! My heart goes out to all of those affected by these floods! Hugs to you my friend!

do you people not know that the restrictions the officials set forth were for your SAFETY not possessions??!!!! Possessions can be replaced, a persons life cannot. I think officials made the right calls during this time. get over it, just a boat!

It seems that there is enough to pick up in Cedar Rapids with out them breaking up your house boat. Did someone not have anything better to do?

Were you one of the people who hired a company to come and retrieve your houseboat, only to have access denied? That's a shame.

That stinks. It would have been nice if none of them would have been damaged. Is it your responibility to get it out of the river?
