From the Sutliff area originally. Now in California but still have my Iowa roots. The collapse of the bridge was liking losing an old friend. Had to write a song about it. It is a piece of history. So this is my song.

Thanks for the great song, Linda. I also live in CA now and share your sentiment. Cried like a baby while watching the KCRG live videostream of the collapse. Unbelievable. My best friend in AZ and others countrywide want to help raise funds...

Thanks for this effort, I also had a few tear in my eyes along with my wife when we first learned about the loss. Is there anyway I can get a copy of this for my files? All I can save now is the KCRG link which will go away someday.

Great job on the coverage, many from Elburn il spent years on the ole bridge wondering who or what would ever bring the bridge down, it even withstood a good dose of near bye dynamite 24 years ago.
We find it totally unbelieveable! It can't be but sadly it is. How it held for all those years. All the parties,good times, beers, and friends. And it was a place that you told stories about to everyone you knew. The Iowa flag at 1/2 staff!
Man can't believe the place I played at those nights as a kid while my dad and Dean Baxa and my grandpa Cliff were inside havin a good time,I cried watchin that.it was like losin a friend.wanted to come and help save SUTLIFF.GOOD 2 C STILL THERE.
Linda, Thank you for a wonderful song to a good old place in our History. I also was very sad when I heard the news I still remember the days when you could still drive on the bridge and how as a kid I was scared to death as the boards would rattle.
i recall many memories as a young child in the early 70's when my parents owned Sutliff the first time i can remember laying in bed at night and you could tell by the sound of the planks which way the vehicle was travelling across the bridge.

I will never forget my Dad driving over this bridge many times just to scare my sisters and me. We always got a good laugh & scare. This song makes me very emotional and I love it!!!! Thanks to my sisters for sending me this website.
Linda thank you so much for putting together the song and video i have very nice memories of the bridge and of the sutliff store it will live in our memories forever we know that part of history is now gone but not forgotten again many thank yous

I'm overwelmned with the response to my song and the pics. my thanks to those who sent pics to KCRG. My dad had a farm near sutliff. I grew up there and Solon. I had to do something. Once an Iowan always an Iowan. My thoughts are with Iowans.

I'm watched your video with tears and sadness for Sutliff's tragedy.Could you write one the for Cedar Rapids area.Your music was so beautiful!!
I'm speechless thinking about Cedar Rapids. Places flooded I never thought would flood. If I can come up with something I will. For me the Sutliff Bridge is symbolic of the floods. The real tragedy are the homes and businesses.
We were born and raised in CR but now live in AZ. These pictures just tear us up. Have talked to many old friends. It is hard to think about the devastation. Love both of your songs.
In 1959 I walked this bridge, and cars went across it then too. I have driven out ro the bridge since - just to rethink my childhood memories. The bridge is gone, but my memory hasn't gone (yet). I will always treasure that time in my life.
Okay, I can't take it. Got to see the bridge and Sutliff. Just booked a flight for August 14. Will go to Cedar Rapids and Iowa City also. Once an Iowan, always an Iowan.
I just returned and the bridge has to be saved. What beautiful place and Sutliff is so special. Hopefully the 2 spans will be saved.
