On June 12th, water from the North Skunk River jumped its banks for the first time in reportedly over 50 years and flooded areas near Kellogg, especially in and around Grinnell College's Conard Environmental Research Area. The river, which is channelized and straightened, did not flood in 1993 but raged through farm fields, around confinement barns, and over streets that day. Damage to the environmental area was minimal, but nearby farms were inundated feet high in places.
