Channel: Flood of 2008

Location: Sutliff

My grandpa John Nost took these pictures in Sutliff on June 13, 2008 at 8:55 AM. This was just a few hours before the bridge collapsed. He took these pictures to show us just how high the water was getting, and when he stopped by to show us we found out that part of the bridge gave out.

Thanks for the pics. This is a terrible loss. Do you have any pics of the bridge after it collapsed?

Good-bye, old bridge. You'll be missed. Time for someone to compose a ballad.

My grandparents Jim and Bonnie Longerbeam owned Sutliff for years. I have a lot of great memories there. I wanted to let Randy know we're thinking about him and the Sutliff Community. J.J.

Did anyone witness the collapse? Or did rising water force everyone to retreat beyond view? Some homes near the water must have been ruined or washed away entirely. The tavern may survive, but there's not much way to replace the bridge.

Thanks for the pictures; my husband Carl Bortz is from there and he is currently serving military duty overseas in the desert--sent these to him so he could see. We actually have framed pictures of the bridge in our home. Terrible loss and sadness

My heart aches - in the wake of all the devastation, this event hit home. Sutliff WILL survive - too many memories live on for so many. Bridge or no bridge, we will continue to support Sutliff. Tried to get in and help but had no access -
