Local and area volunteers in Columbus Junction have worked since Tuesday, June 10, preparing for record flood water levels. An impressive 8 to 10-foot wall of sand, plastic and sandbags surrounds the lower levels of town where many businesses are located. Columbus Junction is located at the confluence of the Iowa and Cedar Rivers. According to hydrologic forcasts the river should crest at 33 feet on Monday, June 16.
