Flood 2008 - Sites During Evacuation

Trying find our way thru town to reach a family member who had been evacuated from the NW side of town was quite challenging, even for me now 38 and having grown up in the downtown area.
Knowing all the side streets and shortcuts was little help navigating once you got near the river. I found myself zigzagging on every side of town before finally reaching a roadway connecting to my brother's house. Wading through the maze of congested traffic, flooded streets, impassable intersections and closed bridges was a difficult test.
Having driven through it, I now understand how people can be deceived becoming trapped in flood water - when their 'higher ground' becomes a shrinking island and familiar exits no longer exist.
I hope everyone takes the evacuations seriously and don’t stick around too long.
