Evacuating Flood 2008

Flood 2008

Saturday, June 7th, we learned that the flood may be worse than the flood of '93. In '93 we had water 5' inside the cabin. Since than we have raised the cabin 2' and spend most of our time there. I have become accustomed to checking the river levels this spring as we have flooded about every 2 weeks since the ice broke creating a jam on the river in early March.

Natural disasters can cause great anxiety however they also help us see the wonder in the humans and nature around us. When we learned we would have water in the cabin, our friends, family and neighbors pitched in and helped us remove all appliances, furniture and important objects. My husband is a carper layer and as he knows it is easier to remove dry carpet than wet we removed all the carpet in the cabin. Everyone worked together to keep people, pets and belongings safe. Even Aunt Elsie's peony bloomed this year. We have been waiting 10 years to see the blooms and we are treated this year as the peony finally has two beautiful blooms on it.
