A group called "N.A.L.O." , or NERF Army Leaders Organization, is hosting an international NERF war at Thomas Park in Marion on August 3rd. Over 50 combatants are expected on the first annual "Megawar" the group will be running. This war is several hours long with various "gametypes" such as "Team Juggernaut, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Free-For-All"
Marion and Cedar Rapids own Dart Dragon Army, made up of a group of teens one and a half years ago, is the hosting team. Their Generals are Christian Draper, Sarah Kitch, and Miles Jordan.
The goal of the Dart Dragon Army is not only to have a good time, and be good hosts, but to catch the attention of other "armies" and maybe even the company NERF itself.
The Dart Dragons are inviting KCRG TV9 to bring a camera or two to the event, with the intent to not only entertain the viewers with footage of the actual war, but to grab the attention of potential recruits, teams, or sponsors.
The group N.A.L.O. can be found on Facebook, here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/108683375887540/ for people interested in having their teams join.
The leader of the Dart Dragon Army and administrator of N.A.L.O. can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
Sidenotes; Umbra Serpens is pronounced "oom-bruh sir-pens" and N.A.L.O. is pronounced the same way everyone pronounces N.A.T.O.
I hope that most of what I typed is written well enough to just be used as-is in your story. As I mentioned in what I typed, your crew is invited to have a camera or two follow us up into the woods (The Frisbee golf course)in order to capture some decent photos or video, as we do not have a cameraman of our own to submit a poorly made video. The event is on the third, so I hope I've given you enough notice that filming is possible. In fact, if any of your cast are interested, we'd be willing to loan a weapon to them for a round or two, accompanying the Dart Dragons.
I'm fairly certain that I haven't violated any copyright with the story I've typed, but if you decide to film, you'll want to blur the logo "NERF" from any guns you might catch on film, as well as any t-shirt logos/brands. I'd rather not get sued over a news broadcast.
I've also included my email address in the story, as well as in my profile on this site if you have any more questions.
Even if it's decided that this story is to be only in the paper/on the website and not televised, I'd still like to be kept up to date via email.
