Taken from The parking lot of lindale mall. Sun was in my eyes so I took my camera, point and shot. The camera appeared like it was dark and couldnt tell if I took anything and this is what it got.

The sun dogs are a result of really fine ice crystals really high up in the atmosphere. I have seen one before with the classic dark sun with bright spots on the right and left side as well as on top. (like W N and E on a compass). Very cool!

Just wanted to let you know that we saw this beauty the same day in Central Illinois. This is the second in less than a month. I was Googling to see what it was called and found your pic. Great job! I wish I had my camera :)

That was a sun Dog!! you didn't look far enough. On the other side of the sun you would have seen the same "rainbow" I'm sure the weather team can explain the "sun Dog" better than I. Cool Pic!1
