A partial solar eclipse was viewable by the residents of Cedar Rapids. While it was reported that Iowans could see the eclipse up to 66% coverage, it was obvious for those of us standing at McKinley Middle School that it was less as we watched through a welding helmet. Then clouds started to cover the eclipse giving viewers an extremely rare chance to see it directly. The eclipse in Cedar Rapids lasted 20 minutes from beginnning to end before the sun set.
