Found an interesting black mallard duck at Lower City Park in Iowa City.

That duck looks somewhat different other than the color...from other mallards. The shape of the head and the its bill is different. Are we sure that it is a mallard?

Looks more like a widgeon cross with possibly a mallard, maybe a black duck. I've seen mallard black duck crosses and that definitely isnt a mallard black cross. If i had to take a wild guess id say widgeon mallard cross or widgeon black duck cross.

My son, who is an avid duck hunter and studying to be a wildlife biologist, believes it may be a widgeon.

I can tell you that it is a Black Mallard. I have hatched out 2 black Mallards. I have both parents, pure bred mallards, green heads. We just hatched out a white Mallard also, we have never seen this before...Too Cool...
