It has to do with the tilt of the earth. It happens around the 1st day of spring and fall when the earths poles are straight up and down. you can stand an egg on its end on these days too

You can stand a broom up like that any time of the year. It has nothing to do with the solar storm, or the beginning of spring. It's just a matter of placing it just right.
