My mother, Gertrude Ilten Schmidt of Methwick Manor, has made Santa Claus cookies for over 50 years and given them as presetnts to relatives and friends at Christmas time. This photo shows her painting the beard on one Santa Face, which will later have coconut added for the whiskers. Now that she is 94, the cutting out and baking the cookies had been relegated to me, now, but we use the same cookie cuter mold and sugar cookie recipe since the early 1960's. Aside from cute, they are rummy as well.
A 50 Year Old Tradition
