These two pumpkins are named Geronimo and Charlie. Geronimo is the orange one and weighed in at 440 pounds. He measures 126-1/2 inches around - that's over 10 feet! The white one is named Charlie and weighs 420 pounds. She measures 122 inches around. They were raised in the back yard of Steve and Jennifer Heeren in Allison - with lots of onlookers helping out throughout the growing season. On an average day they gained 3 inches in circumference and 10 - 25 pounds.
I got started raising giant pumpkins last year - raising a 340-pounder named Warren - whose seed I got from the Iowa State Fair in 2009. Geronimo and Charlie were raised from the seed from Warren, along with about 40 other people I shared seed with. It's been a fun 'community' project.
