Oct. 1 the DNR sponsored Hawk Watch, an event centered on viewing migrating raptors. Experts were on hand to answer questions, and help bird watchers identify various types of hawks, and other raptors. Participants were able to get a close look at two young red-tailed hawks which had been captured and banded that day, before the birds were released. The event took place at Effigy Mounds National Monument near McGregor, Iowa, where Fall foliage was an additional attraction.
