At roughly 2:15am an expected storm hit a very isolated section of rural Swisher. Nothing has been confirmed, but it sounded like a train was running over our roof. Tornado? We estimated the winds to be 80-90 mph+. And even with all of this our neighbors have nothing and 3/4 mile away in Swisher there is hardly more than a few leaves down.
Overnight Destruction of Rural Swisher

Thanks for posting the pictures, and glad you were not hurt. Appears to me that a microburst may have occurred, but working with NWS this am and trading thoughts back and forth. Storm was not officially warned on.

High winds, heavy rain and lots of thunder and lightning--very close near Homestead also. Few branches down and not sure where the lawn chair is.....

I was driving on I80 from Iowa City towards Williamsburg at 1:45ish. We were watching the heat lightening. All of a sudden the rain just started pouring! We were going 45 mph tops. We pulled over in Amana for a few minutes until it was safe again.

I live in Shueyville, and we had lots of tree limbs down, swing sets over turned, etc. Same in Western (north of Shueyville)

One of the large oak trees at my place was snapped in half by that storm, and the lights kept flickering. I didn't discover the tree until this morning.

Woke up around 2:00 am to the sound of high winds and branches falling on and against the house. A big hickory tree was topped and a big norway spruce snapped in half.Received 1/2" of rain in 15 minutes and some hail, power then went out till 5:30 am.

Live just east of Swisher but west of 380 and we also were awaken with STRONG wind/rain. I also thought it sounded like a train and worried about a tornado. Luckily just some limbs down this morning and neighbor had some large branches down.

I just found the scar through the woods that the apparent tornado took. It's getting too late and I'm on too little of sleep to take a picture now, but I will in the afternoon tomorrow. It’s unreal. Like a bulldozer went through. Microburst debunked?
