Not so long ago, in this very Galaxy, a Stormtrooper (Me, Chris Andrews) decided that it was time to move things forward with his Lady Love, Shannon Jost. As a member of the 501st Legion (a Star Wars, costuming, non-profit, volunteer charitable organization) I have some unique opportunities that allow me to do some extraordinary things. Usually it is doing things for others but on this occasion I decide to do something special for the woman I love more than anything in the galaxy. So at our annual event, Star Wars Night with Roughriders Hockey at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, I got in touch with one of our contacts on the Roughrider's staff, Mark Meyer, and he helped me to organize my grand gesture in front of a crowd of thousands of excited fans. Shannon had no idea what was happening or what I had planned, many of my fellow volunteers helped to keep her busy and distracted so she would not catch on to my plan until it was time. You can see when the announcer says, "And now Chris has something he'd like to say to his girlfriend" Shannon begins to figure it out and even panics a bit and backs away, but thankfully a couple of our dedicated Stormtroopers had her flanked and helped her back into position. I had-had this long romantic speech prepared in my head about what I was going to say and it was going to be so very romantic, but when the moment came I was so overwhelmed with emotion that it was all I could do keep myself from crying but I think I hit the key points though even though all I could get out was, "Shannon, my Baby, my Best Friend, Will you marry me?". I knew it was true love though when she said "Yes" and hugged me before she ever even looked at the ring. The wedding is set for just about two months from now and we are hoping it to be the start of an Epic story that ends with "And they lived happily ever after.". We still both cry every time we re-watch this video.
