12/11/07 ice storm Experiment on weight of ice on a 4 inch white pine branch. Weight of branch without ice 1/4 oz. Weight with ice 8 oz. Consider this factor multiplied by the entire branch. I no longer wonder why they break or why one breaking at the top wipes out all the branches it hits on the path down.
