Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton will be married at Westminster Abbey in London, UK, this Friday, April 29. As a MAJOR fan of royalty, particularly British royalty, I submitted this video to a contest in hopes of winning a trip to London to report on the festivities. It's a parody I wrote using a tune from My Fair Lady called Ascot Gavotte. And the tiara is mine - I bought it at the Dayton Art Museum gift shop when they exhibited Diana's wedding dress (William's mother for those who REALLY don't follow royalty). And of course I already owned the British Royalty Genealogy Chart used as a background - nice touch, I thought. William is second in line to the throne, after his father, Prince Charles, and the current Queen, Elizabeth II.
Alas, I was NOT the winner of the CNN iReporter contest. So I'll be watching on the telly like millions of others, drowning my sorrow in William's special request - Chocolate Biscuit Cake (recipe easy to find online), Cream Scones, and of course, tea.
Hmm . . . what to send as a wedding gift? Really, what could they possibly need? And are they registered at Target or Younkers? Not a chance. Turns out that William and Kate have broken with tradition and requested donations to a charitable fund in lieu of gifts. So I used their website (http://www.officialroyalwedding2011.org/) and chose one of their preferred charities - preservation of tigers through the efforts of the London Zoo - and lo and behold, I got a personal thank you note. Immediately. Now THAT's class. It's a whole new type of royalty . . . and the changes seem to be for the better!
