Rodeo Action - Dubuque, Ia

Mark your calendars & let’s rodeo! The River Rodeo Committee (RRC), which originated in 2004 with volunteer parents and other adult rodeo enthusiasts from Dubuque and Jackson counties, invites you to join them for a weekend of exciting family entertainment. The RRC is a non-profit organization that plans and hosts a High School & Junior High Rodeo competition in Dubuque, Iowa. In May, RRC will host the 8th annual weekend of exciting youth rodeo and encourages you to bring your family out for to enjoy the entertainment!
Several area athletes are members of the Wisconsin High School & Junior High Rodeo Association and will be competing with youth from around the state of Wisconsin for the weekend “All-Around Cowboy/Cowgirl” titles and accumulative points for the youth rodeo season. These youth are listed below including their hometowns and their grade level.

Sam Martin, Zwingle – 7th 4 events
Ellie Moore, Dubuque – 7th 6 events
Ben Kilburg, LaMotte- 8th 5 events
Lillie Beringer, Cascade - 9th 3 events
Will Martin, Zwingle – 9th 5 events
Grant Lapke, Bellevue – 11th 3 events
Mollie Martin, Bernard – 11th 2 events
Nicole Meyer, Maquoketa – 11th 4 events
Kali Schilling, Zwingle – 12th 4 events
Mitch Meyer, LaMotte – 12th 3 events
The weekend of May 20th, 21st & 22nd will be an action-packed one. Friday begins at 4:00 for youth in grades 6th, 7th & 8th competing in 11 events in two arenas simultaneously. Following the junior high rodeo will be an open class jack pot team roping in one arena with open class jack pot barrel racing in the other. All area cowboys and cowgirls are invited to enter the fun!
Saturday competition includes 12 events in both arenas for the high school divisions; grades 9-12. Performance times are 1:00pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday. Cutting horse competition is scheduled for Sunday, May 22nd at 8:30am followed by the final high school rodeo performance at Noon on Sunday
The Junior High School Rodeo year concludes with their State finals in Lancaster, WI on June 3rd and the WI High School Rodeo state finals will be held in Richland Center, WI June 16-19th. The top 4 accumulative point winners in each event have the opportunity to compete at the National High School or Junior High Rodeo Finals in July. Gallup, NM is the destination for junior high finalists and Gillette, WY is where high school rodeo finalists compete this year. In addition to many valuable life-skills youth develop from competing as a rodeo athlete, Wisconsin and National High School Rodeos offer numerous prizes including trophy saddles, belt buckles, and scholarships on both the state level and the national level.
The event will be held at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds in Dubuque, Iowa and concessions are available on the grounds. Tickets for each rodeo are sold at the gate for $7.00 adults and $3.00 for children ages 6-12. Or, you may purchase discounted advance tickets at Theisens Home & Farm Stores, Dyersville, Maquoketa & Dubuque or Long Horn Saddlery of Dubuque. Also tickets are available from any River Rodeo Committee member or call 563 – 599-0782.
