Junior Olympic Gymnastic Iowa State Meet

Brittney Uhlrich, a senior at West High School and a Junior Olympic gymnast at the Iowa Gym-Nest, swept the Iowa Junior Olympic Gymnastics Level 9 State meet in the senior division. She accomplished a rare achievement of winning all 4 events (vault 8,875, bars 9.175, beam 9.175, and floor 9.425) which is known as going 4 for 4, in additional to being the All Around Champion.

The State meet was also Brittney's career high with a 36.65 All Around score in her 10 years of competing in Junior Olympics with the Iowa Gym-Nest. Scoring a 36 All Around score was the last goal she wanted to achieve from her long-term competing goals, having qualified for Regional Championships every year since 2007 (last year she placed 4th All Around at Regionals), was the first alternate for Level 9 Western Championship in 2009 and then competed in the Western Championships in 2010 where she placed 2nd on floor with a 9.350.

Brittney will be competing at the Region IV Championships April 15-17th in Des Moines, IA, and will also be representing Team Iowa as her State meet All Around was in the top 6 high scores. At Regionals, her scores will count towards the Team Iowa score as well as her own individual scoring (there are 7 states competing at Regionals, top 180 gymnasts for level 9). Brittney hopes to again qualify for the Western Championships this upcoming May in San Diego, California, to finish her senior year in Junior Olympics.

Brittney is active in supporting the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and has received an essay award in elementary as well as in high school. She also is active in the community with Best Buddies, and received a 2010 Youth Human Rights Commission award. Brittney has also been coaching at the Iowa Gym-Nest the past five years.

Brittney plans on continuing her gymnastic career in college. She is currently coached by Paige Roth in Coralville, Iowa, at the Iowa Gym-Nest.
