Jones County, 3 miles east of Martelle, Iowa. Trumpeter Swans on 2 acre private farm pond. Video shot to accompany previous story and photos.
Trumpeter Swans are the largest swans in the world, completely white with bills, legs and feet are black. Feeds on aquatic plants. Strong direct flight on steady wing beats. Flies in straight or V formation. Trumpeter Swans were nearly extirpated because of overharvest and widespread destruction and degradation of wetlands. Breeds and winters in Alaska, Canada, and northwestern United States. Preferred habitats include marshes, lakes, and rivers with dense vegetation. This group appears to have maybe taken a wrong turn!!
