I took October 8th off to pursue two of my passions along the Mississippi - photography and motorcycling. It is the beginning of the color displays along the river, and the Mississippi Palisades State Park near Savanna, Illinois provides some great viewpoints to witness the colors and even spot eagles, ducks, and other creatures of the wild. I left in the morning on my Harley to feel the crisp fall air, and even riding along Highway 30 can produce some vivid displays of color and activity. I spent two hours riding in and around the park area, but the best views are in the viewpoints high above the river, just north of Savanna. I was fortunate enough to capture not only the colors, but two trains snaking their way along the river. The color peak has not occurred yet, but even so there are areas which are coming to full bloom, so I am planning a return trip to capture even more colors.
