American Airlines flight 806 out of Phoenix this morning aborted takeoff moments before liftoff when an engine "blew out". The plane was well into its takeoff run when a loud boom followed by the quick wind down of the broken engine led to a high-speed stop.
The group of local employees were in Scottsdale for a conference and on their way home at the time. Most aboard were calm though there were a few sighs of relief when they finally deported.
The group was hoping to be rerouted on a new plane and to be able to get home yet today.
