KCRG-TV9 Meteorologist Justin Gehrts joined the KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team in October 2009 as weekend morning meteorologist.

Justin was born and raised in Galena, Illinois and attended Iowa State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology in December 2007. During his time at ISU, Justin was actively involved in student-produced weather programming on student-run television station ISUtv. Throughout college, he interned at KCCI-TV in Des Moines, KWQC-TV in Davenport, and here at KCRG-TV9. Justin served as president of the Iowa State Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society during his senior year.

Justin previously worked at WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois as the weekend meteorologist. He also produced a weekly “Going Green” segment about efforts to be environmentally friendly in Northern Illinois.

Justin has a well-fed tabby cat, Stratus the Cat-us (of course it would have a weather-related name), and enjoys exploring the nature trails in Cedar Rapids on his bicycle and cheering for his Iowa State Cyclones.
