Edwards takes indirect swipe at former President Clinton over trade

By Becky Ogann

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards taking an indirect swipe at former President Clinton over the 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement.

Edwards, who's in Iowa Monday, argues Clinton allowed corporate insiders to shape the treaty that has cost U.S. jobs.

His complaint is meant to highlight rival Hillary Rodham Clinton's relationship with special interests. Clinton has refused Edwards' challenge to stop taking campaign donations from lobbyists, saying many represent good causes.

Edwards plans to repeat the challenge Monday at a union hall in Cedar Rapids. His campaign gave a copy of his remarks to The Associated Press in advance.
