McCain Consultant Changes Mind, Stays With Campaign

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - One of John McCain's staffers who quit his Republican presidential campaign has changed her mind.

Marlys Popma, who resigned on Monday, will continue to help the Arizona senator build ties with conservative Iowans. She says she reconsidered after speaking with McCain and others about ``the seriousness of their commitment.''

Popma had joined a string of consultants and staffers who left McCain's Iowa campaign, including communications director Tim Miller.

McCain supporters have said he'll campaign for this winter's Iowa precinct caucuses with a staff of about a half-dozen.
