Obama Launches First Two Television Ads in Iowa

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is launching two biographical TV ads this week, focusing on early voting in Iowa.

They're the first commercials for the Illinois senator's campaign. The ads feature a Republican lawmaker who worked with Obama in the Illinois State Legislature and a Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe.

Both Tribe and Republican Senator Kirk Dillard are in the new commercials.

The first one -- called “Choices” -- focuses on the decision Obama made after graduating from Harvard Law School when he turned down working for lucrative law firms and instead moved to Chicago.

The other spot -- titled “Carry” -- focuses on Obama's time in the Illinois legislature. Dillard praises Obama's moves, including pushing new ethics legislation.

Other candidates who've run ads in Iowa so far – including Republican Mitt Romney and Democrat Bill Richardson – have seen their poll number rise.
