PARKERSBURG - The people of Parkersburg, Iowans, are resilient. In the last year, the debris has disappeared, but the memories of what happened are still very clear.

"They found my grandparents. Grandma in the backyard of their house, and my grandpa by the city hall" Rebecca Mulder's Grandparents, Richard and Ethel Mulder, lost their lives that day.

But now, the community moves forward.

Memorial Day means remembering not only the tornado victims, but veterans and their services. "They are Iowans and Americans who served with dignity and bravery, here at home and abroad"

Governor Chet Culver spoke to community members about what May 25th means now. The annual Memorial Day events were put on hold last year. But this year, it's been all about remembrance and renewal... a fitting theme for this community.

For some, it's still hard. But it's evident that event though this community is looking back now... They're definitely moving forward.
