Prairie’s Meeker Selects Iowa State
By Jeff Linder, The Gazette
CEDAR RAPIDS Bryce Meeker wasn’t going to wait around. He went with the offer in hand.
Meeker, a lineman at Cedar Rapids Prairie, orally committed Monday morning to play college football at Iowa State University.
I’m really excited, said Meeker, a 6-foot-5, 290-pounder who just concluded his junior year. The coaches, the facilities ... I feel there is something good about to go down in Ames.
The state’s No. 1 college prospect for 2015 according to rivals.com and a second-team all-stater last season, Meeker chose the Cyclones over Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa.
Obviously they have a lot of top recruits from the state the last couple years, like (freshman) Allen Lazard and people like that, he said. That has quite a bit to do with everything because I want to be playing with those kids I want to be playing on the field with top prospects, people who are willing to get better.
Meeker’s hoping to help nudge more top-line talent to Ames, too.
I know a couple kids that have got offered by Iowa State and I know a couple of them want to commit to Iowa State, so I’m just trying to get them to come with me, he said. Hopefully we can get another good recruiting class.
Meeker considered Iowa, but hadn’t received an offer from the Hawkeyes.
I thought I might get one, but I wasn’t going to wait around to decide, he said.
Meeker expects to be a center or offensive guard for ISU.
Whichever they want, I’ll do, he said.
Meeker said Cyclones Coach Paul Rhoads presented his offer Saturday after a camp.
I was really pumped about it, Meeker said. I really wanted to commit right there, but everybody I’ve talked to about it says, Just take the offer, sleep on it, talk to the people that you care about and decide from there.’ I slept on it. I talked to the people and that’s where my ultimate heart is at.
