The offensive line will once again be an area of strength for the Iowa football team this season.
Two linemen were named to the Rotary Lombardi Award Preseason Watch List: Austin Blythe and Brandon Scherff, who could be a first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft. The Big Ten has also ranked Iowa’s O-line number one in the conference. But the team says those rankings don’t matter.
“It’s hard to taking anything [seriously] preseason-wise,” Blythe said. “I think it would mean more after the season. Up to this point, nobody has really done anything. What’s really going to make a difference is how we perform during the season.”
“Without the watch list, I already felt good before that,” quarterback Jake Rudock said. “The watch lists are what they are... I think there’s too much preseason talk, to be honest. Just the fact that these guys have a lot of experience makes me feel comfortable.”
