College football season is closer than you think. So when they have some free time, a few of the Hawkeyes like to hit the great outdoors.
Linemen Eric Simmons, Andrew Donnal, and Brandon Scherff were out fishing when KCRG-TV9’s John Campbell caught up with them.
“Nothing I’d rather be doing that playing football, fishing and hunting,” Scherff said as he reeled in a small bass.
Scherff and Donnal’s dads got them into fishing at a young age. They head to the outdoors whenever the schedule allows.
“You can’t beat it after a long day, with workouts and everything we go through football-wise. To come out here and just relax a little bit and enjoy the weather and the scenery with your friends,” Donnal said.
Days like this will soon be scarce for the three, when football season arrives.
But until then, when you’re a leisure-studies major like Donnal and Scherff, you’ve got to do your homework.
