CEDAR RAPIDS - The Iowa Legislative session wrapped up Friday in Des Moines, when senators voted to give the oversight committee subpoena powers. The hope is the committee can get to the bottom of hush money paid fired state workers. This means the committee can subpoena witnesses involved in the secret settlements and put them under oath to testify.
Democrats say having this power is necessary to figure out what happened in the Branstad administration, while Republicans feel like taxpayers ended up saving money after state workers were fired.
