Wind Collapses Fairfax Building, Kills One

FAIRFAX, Iowa — Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner said a man was found dead underneath a collapsed building in Fairfax Monday.

Authorities responded at 2:45 p.m. to 90 West Cemetery Road for a report of a building blown down by high winds and people trapped inside.

Emergency personnel arrived to find one person had escaped the debris with non-life threatening injuries, according to a release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

First responders lifted part of the structure off the second victim, but he wa pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are withholding the names of those involved until family members can be notified.
