WATERLOO, Iowa — Waterloo Police report a shooting death overnight on the city’s east side, making it the city’s first homicide of 2014.

Investigators said they were called out on a report of a man lying in the 200 block of Jackson Street before 2 a.m. Saturday. They said they found 27-year-old Gary Wilson with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He later died at a hospital.

Police said there was some kind of altercation at a house in that block and someone shot Wilson after he left the house.
