WATERLOO, Iowa — Officers with the Waterloo Violent Crime Apprehension Team attempted to contact 20-year-old Juwon Culpepper around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to continue a weapons investigation. Police say they found Culpepper in the 700 block of Logan Avenue.

As soon as police officers arrived, Culpepper tried to run away from the officers. Police say they used a Taser to take Culpepper into custody. After they had him subdued, police say they found a .38 Special revolver on Culpepper.

Culpepper has been named as a suspect for a shooting in the 700 block of Logan Avenue on June 9. During their investigation, officers say they determined Culpepper used the firearm they found on him Tuesday to fire several shots into the air on Monday. No one was injured in that shooting.

Culpepper was transported to the Black Hawk County Jail. He has been charged with interference with official acts involving a firearm and two counts of carrying weapons.
