VINTON, Iowa — A new park has opened in Vinton where floodwaters hit in 2008.
The grand opening of Celebration Park took place this past weekend.
Eight houses and garages once stood where the park is now, but they were washed away by the flooding.
Vinton city officials say they tried to create something good out of a bad situation.
“It was a whole community effort and I think our community’s going to take a lot of pride in this park,” Duane Randall, Director of Vinton Parks and Recreation said.
The park will host an Arts Festival this upcoming Saturday morning beginning at nine. There will be lives music and about thirty local artists present.
