INDEPENDENCE, Iowa — If you’re riding RAGBRAI, bring your appetite.

Each year food vendors from across the state flock to RAGBRAI stops to fuel cyclists during each leg of their journey.

Friday night, 23 different vendors packed into the green space near Fifth Street Northeast and 1st Ave Northeast in Independence.

Riders could grab typical stuff like BBQ and burritos, or try something exotic like alligator on a stick or frog legs.

One rider said it was almost impossible to stay in shape with so much quality food.

“I ride this to try to lose weight, keep in shape. When you get done with it, you end up gaining weight,” said Phil Griffith.

Besides food, riders had a specialty beer to try, too. One called “Indi Dark” was brewed just for the stop in Independence.
