IOWA CITY, Iowa — The U.S. Postal Service is looking to hire Rural Carrier Associates and City Carrier Assistants.
Positions are available in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Des Moines and Iowa City.
Back in the eighties, the post office had a large hiring effort, and now those people are beginning to retire.
Employees are currently getting paid overtime to continue delivery routes. Post offices are looking to cut expenses by hiring more carriers at a standard rate.
“We want our employees to have on time delivery every day. We don’t want our customers to expect to have their mail delivered at six o’clock at night or after dinner,” Stacy St. John, Corporate Communications for the U.S. Postal Service in Iowa City said. “We want our customers to experience on time delivery with a carrier that they know is gonna be there on time every day.”
The U.S. Post Office is working with local libraries and workforce development to get the word out about these positions.
