An arraignment has been set for Cindy Steege, the former business manager of the Mid-Prairie and Keota community school districts, who is charged with second-degree theft.

Steege’s arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 25 in Washington County District Court.

The case resulted from the discovery of almost $7,000 worth of charges on a Mid-Prairie district credit card between October 2012 and February 2014.

Steege submitted her resignation from the Mid-Prairie and Keota positions in April and accepted a job as a payroll manager for the Solon Community School District. During a Monday regular meeting, the Solon school board approved Steege’s resignation.

The witness list includes three Mid-Prairie employees — Superintendent Mark Schneider, Assistant Business Manager Cindy Malichky and Human Resource Coordinator Carmela Ulin — as well as Washington County Deputy Sheriff Chad Ellis.

Steege was released from custody without posting bond, which was set at $5,000.
