ASBURY, Iowa - Sunday night’s storms caused problems throughout Eastern Iowa. Parts of the Dubuque County community of Asburty sustained significant flood damage.

Officials with Dubuque County Emergency Management say some homes received several feet of water in their basements. Ken Voorhees lives on Forest Hills Drive and says five feet of water fell into his basement overnight.

Voorhees says he’s lived in his home for 9 years. He says everything in his basement was ruined in Sunday night’s storms.

“It’s nerve-racking because it’s every time it rains and we’ve got to keep one eye on the on the pipe to make sure it’s not coming up...not that we can really do anything about it, but we have to sleep with one eye open,” said Voorhees.

Voorhees says the water was strong enough in his area that it even broke his sliding glass door.
