CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Two people are in custody after Cedar Rapids police asked people to avoid the 500 block of Seventh Street SW Friday.

Police surrounded a house at 503 Seventh Avenue SW and blocked off several blocks around the area. Cedar Rapids police spokesperson Greg Buelow tells KCRG-TV9 police thought one person may have still been inside the home, but no one was found inside.

Buelow says police approached the home to investigate reports of a suspicious person. Someone then threw a fire extinguisher out the window which began to leak anhydrous ammonia. No other toxic chemicals were found in or around the house. Two men are in custody, one charged with interference with official acts, the other charged with a probation violation.

About 40 students inside Taylor Elementary were put under a partial lockdown, but parents were able to come to the school to pick up children.

Cedar Rapids police turned over the investigation to their narcotics division.
