DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Public Safety will hold a torch lighting ceremony as part of the Special Olympics Summer Games in Ames.

The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday with a lighting of the torch at the Oran Pape State Office Building in Des Moines. Officers from several law enforcement agencies will run with the torch in 4-mile increments from Des Moines to Ames, where they will use the torch to ignite a “Flame of Hope” and start the games.

The games in Ames will begin Thursday and continue through Saturday.
