Sioux City Father Charged in Infant Death

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Authorities have charged a Sioux City man with neglect of a dependent person, a class “C” felony, after a two-month-old boy died at the hospital.

Police arrested 26-year-old Michael Williams Tuesday after the baby was brought into the emergency room at Unity Point Health in Sioux City.

Court documents indicate Williams claims he is addicted to meth, marijuana and and prescription drugs and was in charge of watching the child on a daily basis. Authorities say Williams would also leave the baby for long periods of time.

Williams told police he didn’t call an ambulance Tuesday when he found the child because he had active warrants for his arrest.

He was wanted for a probation violation related to a domestic abuse conviction from June 2013.

Investigators have not released the child’s name or how he died.

Online records indicate Williams was in the Woodbury County Jail as of Wednesday evening on a $72,000 bond.
