Officials Call Off Search For Two Children In Fort Dodge

  • Photo

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) -- Authorities have called off a search in Fort Dodge for two children that witnesses say went under the swiftly flowing water of the Des Moines River.

The search began Thursday evening and then resumed Friday morning, but after a couple hours authorities stopped the effort.

Fort Dodge Fire Chief Kent Hulett says he doesn’t believe anyone remained in the river because no one reported children missing.

The search began when witnesses on a bridge reported seeing two children fall into the river. By the time they could reach the shore, they couldn’t see the children.

Searchers used boats and a plane as well as people walking along the riverbanks.
