Cedar River Forecast Improves, Sandbag Site Shut Down

By Lee Hermiston, The Gazette

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Thanks to an improved river forecast, the City of Cedar Rapids is shutting down its sandbag operation.

According to a news release from the city, the remote sandbag making site at the NewBo Market has been closed. Volunteers descended on the neighborhood Tuesday when it looked as if the river would crest above 18 feet. However, that forecast has been changed to only 16.8 feet. The city said the flooding risk is considerably lower with that projection.
