CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Sunday was a busy one for city street crews as they worked through about 1.5 inches of rain to prepare for the Cedar River to crest early Tuesay morning, according to projections from the National Weather Service.
Workers also closed parts of several streets for two different water-related concerns.
In an email, Public Works Maintenance Manager Craig Hanson said Ellis Road NW was closed between 16th and 18th Street NW because of rainwater.
Other roads were closed in anticipation of a rise in the Cedar River level. Those areas include:
•Otis Road SE by the river
•Fish Court SW off Old River Road SW
•Manhattan Park along Ellis Road NW
The city also closed parts of several streets, mostly on the southwest side, because of flood protection setup:
•A ST SW from 17th to 22nd Ave
•B ST SW from 17th to 21st Ave
•18th Ave SW from A to C ST
•19th Ave SW from A to C ST
•20th Ave SW from A to C ST
•21st Ave SW from A to C ST
•22nd Ave SW from A to C ST
•14th Ave SE from 3rd to 4th ST
•4th ST SE from 12th to 14th Ave
These closures are in addition to the city’s published list of closures related to street or sewer repairs.
