Rescuers pull naked man from river in Des Moines
DES MOINES (AP) Crews have rescued a man from the Des Moines River after he was found swimming near the Center Street dam in downtown Des Moines.
The Des Moines Register reports the man was pulled out of the river Wednesday afternoon after being in the water about 20 minutes. Although he was just downstream from the dam, authorities don’t think he went over the dam, which produces dangerous, churning water.
The man, who was naked, was taken to a hospital. His name wasn’t released.
Rescuers threw ropes to the man from bridges on Locust and Walnut streets. He grabbed one rope but let it go and was pulled from the river by resucers in boats.
Des Moines Fire Capt. Steve Brown says it’s unclear why the man was in the river.
