WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo police say a man who was found unconscious outside last week has died at an Iowa City hospital.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports 69-year-old Dennis Dwaine Washburn, of Waterloo, died Wednesday night at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A passerby found Washburn unconscious about 12:30 a.m. on May 26. He was lying in a grassy area near the former Longfellow Elementary School.

Washburn was taken to a hospital and never regained consciousness.

Waterloo police say an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Washburn’s family suspects he was beaten and robbed. His daughter, April Washburn, says his wallet was found 100 to 200 feet away from where he was lying.
